COWBOY RACE SERIES RACE RULES
1. Competitors may enter more than one class according to eligibility.
2. Parent participation during a run by a competitor is only allowed in
the Pee-Wee class.
3. The maximum time limit for each obstacle is one minute. If a rider exceeds
the maximum time, a whistle will be blown and the rider must move on to
the next obstacle.
4. The maximum time limit for the entire course for each class will be
determined by the race director at least 24 hours prior to the race and
posted and announced at least one hour before the first competitor begins
his/her run.
5. Competitors on course after the maximum time limit will be asked to
retire from the race.
6. Competitors must be able to start their run within 30 seconds of being
called to the race start box or they will forfeit their entry.
7. All competitors must ride with a bridle.
8. Scoring will be based on the horse and rider’s ability to maneuver
obstacles in a timely fashion. Each section on the course will have two
judges—one
for the rider and one for the horse and each obstacle will have a score
for the rider and for the horse. Scores will range from 1 to 5 for each
rider and horse, with 5 being a perfect score. If a competitor is unable
to complete an obstacle within the one minute time limit, there will be
no score for horse and rider for that obstacle. The actual time it takes
for a competitor to complete
the course will also be computed in the final score, with the rider and
horse ability scores weighing heaviest. It will be in the competitor’s
best interest to finish the course correctly, and quickly. Scores will
be posted within 30 minutes of a competitor’s run so that awards will
be ready within 15 minutes of the end of all classes.
9. Helmets are encouraged for all race participants, and strongly suggested
for riders under 18 years of age. There will be helmets available at the
race in the event a participant wishes to use one and doesn’t own
a helmet.
10. Unruly horse/rider combinations which are deemed a hazard to the horse
and/or rider may be asked to retire from the course by any of the four
judges at their discretion. Participants asked to retire will be disqualified
from the race and their score will not be posted.
